When you hear the word “bugs” in relation to your health, it might conjure up visions of the flu or other unpleasant bacterial malaise, but probiotics are the good bugs. These “friendly” micro-organisms live in your gut naturally. To balance the effects of poor eating, antibiotic use or illness, consider introducing these good bacteria into your diet. Clinical studies have established that probiotic therapy can help treat gastric intestinal illnesses, alleviate or prevent allergies, and treat vaginal and urinary infections.

Europeans have a long tradition of eating foods fermented with nutritional bacteria like acidophilus and lactobacillus. You can find probiotics in your local health food store in liquid or capsule form (always keep refrigerated). There are many foods containing probiotics, such as yogurt and kefir, as well as fermented foods like Kimchi (Korean cabbage) and sauerkraut. Include the life-enhancing benefits of these microflora in your diet to build your immune system and flourish!
