The Cran-Berry Best

Heart-Healthy Superfruit

Cranberries – deep red and tart – provide a heart-healthy treat loaded with antioxidants to help prevent cardiovascular diseases and lower cholesterol. Many cultures take advantage of this superfruit’s healing properties. Cranberries support the urinary tract and may prevent urinary infections and kidney stones. Use them dried as a tasty treat in your breakfast cereal or in home-baked muffins. Sprinkle on a salad or spruce up your favorite trail mix – look for organic, unsweetened brands. In late fall and winter, fresh cranberries add their savory tartness and festive color to many holiday tables.

Try this uncooked Cranberry Orange Relish as an alternative to canned jellies, while giving your body a boost of antioxidants and Vitamin C. In a blender or food processor, place 12 oz. fresh cranberries (washed and de-stemmed), pulp from 1 peeled orange, 1/2 cup shelled walnuts, 1/2 cup honey or agave sweetener, and a dash of grated fresh ginger. At holidays (or any time) perk up your meal with the cran-berry best!

Just tried a twist on this recipe with fresh jalapenos and cilantro...sounds strange but really tasty and zingy!
