Spice Up Your Life

Groove with Ginger Root

Pungent, fragrant and medicinally-gifted, ginger root has such character, from its gnarled look to its taste-bud popping flavor. Grate some into your stir-fry or juice it up fresh to add “zing” to a morning smoothie or fresh veggie drink. Ginger’s powerful properties as a spice, delicacy and medicinal herb helped spread its popularity from a South Asian staple to the world’s markets. This root herb works as a nourishing nerve tonic (which is why we love it in Yogi Tea). Ginger is known to relieve nausea, indigestion, heartburn, menstrual cramps and morning sickness, among other benefits.

Here’s a great way to put this wonder spice to work—if you have a persistent cough, saute fresh, peeled ginger on low heat until it’s very soft (don’t let it burn or get too brown). Add turmeric, salt and yogurt. Eat once a day for a 3-day minimum. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s time to get in the groove with ginger!
