Dog-Gone

Four-Legged Philosophers

We can learn a lot from our canine friends. One of the most powerful lessons is to live “in the moment”—without indulging in future worries or getting stuck in past guilt, regrets or resentments. The great spiritual teachers tell us to “be here now.” A great tool, when you find yourself worrying, is to take a big, deep breath. If you just think of your dog with his tongue lolling, you can’t help but smile and breathe!

Your canine companion also teaches you about unconditional love, including forgiveness and compassion. Your dog doesn’t hold a grudge when you are running late to take him on his daily walk. Your puppy always wags her tail with joy when she sees you at the end of your day, no matter what. She isn’t judging or questioning… she’s just there to love you and to be loved back. So go to the dogs for a powerful lesson now and then!

Thanks to our photo model Ria, who was, and always will be, a "special spirit."
