Brain Building

Fitness for the Mind

The mind is a great tool. We use our brains to calculate, communicate and process thousands of ideas every second. A way to keep your mind sharp and active is to “train the brain.” Exercising your brain during the day increases your ability to retain all that you learn and helps you enjoy life more fully. While the brain is still much of a mystery, here are a few ideas on how to do a little brain-ercise to stay mentally fit.

Do some cross-hemisphere activities, like touching your right hand to your left knee and vice-versa. Gently roll the neck in circles to increase blood flow to the brain. Play chess, do crossword puzzles or other brain-stimulating games that help maintain brain fitness. Eat brain foods like walnuts, blueberries, green tea and omega-3 foods to stay productive. Most importantly—drink lots of water to stay alert. Your brain is your partner, so care for it well!
