Home Sweet Home

Geopathic Stress and You

Many people strictly associate design aspects with Feng Shui, the art of balancing Heaven and Earth. A different, more "down-to-earth" approach includes addressing energetic imbalances (caused by either natural or man-made phenomena) in your living space. German research in the early 20th century showed specific repeating earth patterns associated with major health challenges. Doctors investigated these correlations and found that cancer was accompanied by specific earth energy patterns called Geopathic Stress (Geo = of the earth, pathologic = sick making).

Geopathic Stress is a form of stress which drains your chi until your energetic resources collapse. Typical observations are:

  • Difficulty sleeping, especially small children. Small children will often fall out of a bed trying to avoid these energetic structures.

  • Overall exhaustion. If one does not feel rested in the morning, the re-charging mechanism is compromised.

  • Waking up between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. is another typical hint that something is not right. Geopathic energies have their maximum intensity at around 2:30 in the morning.

  • Cats are attracted by these energies, although they appear unharmed by them, whereas dogs and most other animals avoid them. (If a cat loves your bed, better check it!)

What can be done? Choose a different sleeping place for a few days and see if you feel different. Sleep in a guest room or on the sofa. If you still feel fatigued in the morning, the whole apartment might be affected. Keep all sources of naturally occurring or man-made environmental stress, such has electronic devices, out of your bedroom. No computer, no phones, no TV in the sleeping areas.

Summary: If you are suspicious about an area in your house, and if you do not feel rested in the morning, try to learn more. You just might have found the cause of a long term problem. Education is the first step to a positive change. The good news? There are a number of ways to counteract even difficult geopathic stress situations—and make your "home sweet home" a reality.
