The Five Elements - Part III

How do you get grounded? Do you take walks in nature, plant flowers, or practice yoga poses like Mountain Pose or Warrior II? An important way to stay grounded is through your home. Bringing your home into balance, your mind and body will follow. One of the best ways to accomplish this balance is with the Five Elements cycle in Feng Shui.
The Wood Element is about growth and the Fire Element activates your energies—they are both masculine (yang) energies. The Earth Element helps balance the yang energy and is essential in bringing harmony among all five elements.
The following are a few of the many ways you can incorporate the Earth Element into your home for optimal grounding and balance. The Earth Element is associated with four-sided shapes; any item in your home that is square-shaped, such as a coffee table or ottoman, would be considered an Earth Element. Consider using brick, terra cotta, pottery and ceramic. Bring in the colors of the earth with pillows, wall coverings or accessories in earth tones or shades of the Southwest.
Other aspects that embody the Earth Element are baskets, bowls and bags. Like Mother Earth, the Earth Element provides nurturing and support, containing all the other elements. Take a moment to add some earth energy to your plot of the Planet. Then go outside, dig your feet into the dirt and ground yourself into downward-facing-dog. It’s time to get earthy!
