Breathing Space

Om in the Home - Feng Shui I

Yoga has been an integral bridge in my life, leading me from the corporate world into the healing arts. Soon after I started taking yoga classes, I began to tap into the subtle world of energy and mind-body connection, eventually leading me to study and practice Feng Shui. The more I learn about and practice Feng Shui, the more I realize how much Feng Shui and yoga have in common.

In yoga the breath is the vehicle uniting the mind, body and spirit. Without the breath there would be no yoga, or life for that matter. And so it is with our spaces. The flow of energy is like the breath in the body. Feng Shui provides a way to harness the chi or living energy in a space, just as yoga works with the pranic energy in the body. Working with chi allows your space to breathe – in fact, harmonious chi in Feng Shui practice is called the “Cosmic Breath.”

As spiritual beings having a physical experience, yoga helps you balance between the physical (earth) and spiritual (ethers). For the same reason churches were built with steeples, your home or any space can be an energy portal that connects you with heaven and earth. Just as yoga helps you relate to your body as a temple, Feng Shui allows your home to be a temple as well.

Applying Feng Shui to your home, you can receive a conscious daily dose of balanced energy—like an amazing yoga workout. In this series, Om in the Home, we will explore how the energy in your home can flow more freely, just as you move with ease through your yoga asanas. Enjoy some Om in your home!
