Lyte Up Your Life

Natural Electrolyte Sources

When it’s hot out, it’s good to know the human body is made to withstand it. Water helps, and there are all kinds of natural means to boost your body’s ability to absorb water.

First, try eating a banana. Potassium is one of the primary natural electrolytes. Add a little bit of lemon or salt (or both) to a small glass of water. Salt is an electrolyte, too and the citric acid from lemon has a similar effect. In fact, electrolytes get their name because they create the conditions for electrical conductivity in the body, which helps your muscles and body functions to function in prime condition. Try coconut water (not coconut milk), or make your own electrolyte beverage. Whatever you choose, drink lots of water afterward, so your body has something to absorb. This way you’ll stay healthy, hydrated and active all summer!
