The Wind and the Waters

Falling for Negative Ions

There is one luxury even the most severe ascetic yogi won’t pass up. A waterfall isn’t just beautiful. It’s healing on the molecular level.

Moving water - waves, waterfalls, etc. create negative ions. Negative ions are actually positive - they work in a good way, having a relaxing, soothing effect on the nervous system, so much so that you can buy negative ion generators for your home. (It's easier than putting a waterfall in your bedroom!) Positive ions, in turn, are negative. These are often whipped up in hot dry winds from a desert (like California’s Santa Ana winds). Positive ions cause irritation and stress to the nervous system. So this summer, don't pass up a waterfall and avoid hot summer wind. Your nervous system will be happier, and the negative ions will also improve your immune system and release endorphins, which will leave you bouncing, buoyant and full of joy.
