My Three Minds

Positive, Negative, Neutral

Yogis understand that a human has not one, but three functional minds. They work in a specific order, in a manner that mirrors the path of evolution. But what makes the concept relevant is its practice in everyday life, which insures the accessibility of peace through the meditative mind.

Here's how they operate, in order. First there’s the negative analytical mind which assesses the danger present in any given situation. Then the expansive mind projects the promise and possibilities. Finally, the meditative (neutral) mind tallies these pros and cons, providing the soul a clear reflection of reality. Since every thought originates in one of these aspects, it is very important to let the energy of that thought run its course. So take every thought through the whole process. The next time something—anything—bothers you, observe the thought and ask which mind generated it. Then approach the scenario from the opposite perspective. Take a deep breath and weigh the data. Whatever the outcome, you will empower yourself by accessing your own, ever-available neutrality.
