Tighten Your Belt

Eat Less, Live Long, Save Money

A very interesting study done years ago found that rats who were fed the minimal requirement of calories lived twice as long as those fed twice as much, as well as those who were allowed to eat as much as they wanted. It has long been observed that cultures whose populations generally eat a simple, basic diet with minimal calories live longer and healthier. For example, the Hunza people (before McDonald’s moved in), certain Japanese and Indian populations, and villages in the Andes of South America have healthy centenarians eating less!

So next time you go out to eat with that special someone, choose a single main course and split it, getting your own separate soup or salad. This way you'll keep calories down and save money! At home, gradually cut your portions down and see how it works. The rule of thumb for yogis is: don’t put any more in your stomach than two fistfuls, or about 2/3 full. Your belly will appreciate it, and so will your pocketbook!

I'm always happy to read about ways to save money, cut down on eating, and staying healthy. This is a good start AND the mini-steps recommended are very do-able
