Bedtime Stories

Program Yourself for Peace

You don’t have to be a psychiatrist to know that when you’re tired, you’re more susceptible to influence. So why reach for that scary story on the bedside table? Why open yourself to mentally malevolent mysteries? When you go to sleep, your mind doesn’t just shut off. Generally, even when the body is completely at rest, thoughts are still swirling around, creating impressions, evoking emotions and chemical reactions within you. It’s like eating half of a pizza before bed.

Once you’ve recognized you’re tired, treat your mind with nurturing care. Prepare yourself for bed with thoughts of gratitude, thanking yourself for all your efforts in the day just passed. Take a page from your children’s books. Read stories of good deeds or amazing inspiration. This makes the most of your brain’s under-utilized off-switch. These tales will make the thoughts in your dreaming kind and calm, so you will wake up ready to face the new day fresh, confident, and well-rested.

Guess somebody doesn't like scary mystery stories! Some of us find that a little fun reading is a nice way to unwind before bed -- but please don't read scary stuff unless you really like it!
