First Things First

Morning is Sacred

Whether or not you consider yourself a “morning person,” you know what it’s like to wake up refreshed. It may not happen often, but what if it could? What if you were guaranteed a fresh start every day with a clear mind, healthy body and the best attitude possible?

This is the question the ancient yogis asked, and which led them to discover “sadhana,” meaning both “daily spiritual practice” and “personal victory.” The yogis recognized that when the sun comes up in the morning, it creates a special kind of energy. The “amrit vela” or ambrosial hours, are not only a time of profound stillness, but also moments of transition, providing you increased access and ability to impact your own psyche. All it takes is commitment. Though you may not wake up readily at first, your whole system will soon acclimate, and the process will always start your day off right.

I have started a morning Sadhana; at first it was hard waking up but now I'm automatically waking up (without an alarm clock) @5:30a.m. My day is out of sync if I miss. It really is a great way to start my day.

I think there are old rituals that were there for a purpose to sort of guide our mind and body and with time we've dropped them and are the worse off for it. I think a morning as described above would put a person in a better mind set for the day than say listening to Howard Stern first thing.

Very often, if not always, yoga has an emphatic focus on the movement of the spine. When you move into an asana (posture), you line it all up and then rest for a moment, letting it take effect.
