Hey-Hey Massage Your TMJ
A Simple Stress Buster

One of the most densely packed nerve centers in your entire body is your Temporal Mandibular Joint, the TMJ, your jaw-hinge. One look at a neurology textbook reveals just how much of the brain is dedicated to receiving input from this area--it is practically hard-wired. It's no wonder that, when tense, your TMJ causes not only headaches, but overall body tension. Its response can increase or decrease stress in the body as a whole. This is why when people experience stress, they often grind their teeth at night. Stress feeds stress--it becomes a slippery slope.
Here is a way to reduce TMJ and overall stress: Use your thumbs or knuckles to massage the bulge of the TMJ with 5-10 pounds of pressure. Press fairly hard for up to 10 seconds, then relax. Repeat 3 or 4 times on each side. Do this a few times a day. Each time, end by breathing deeply, relaxing and smiling!

Yes, I agree, I don't know what is meant by massaging the bulge, more clarification would help, thanks for the tip though
Charleen,
As a bodyworker myself, my suggestion is to feel around your jaws and when you feel a sensitivity/tenderness, your in the right area!
Yes, you can do both sides at the same time.
Good luck!

It might be good to have a diagram of exactly where to push. I think I'm getting it, but I'd like to know for sure. Do we do both sides simultaneously, or one at a time? Thank you for your wisdom and desire to help.
