Well Meant for Leather

Make Your Own Healthy Fruit Snacks

You've probably bought those packaged fruit leathers at the health food store. They're super healthy and a great in-between meal snack with a long shelf life and, of course, very yummy. Here's a simple way you can make your own at home. It's also a great way to use up all those almost-going-south apples, bananas, etc in your fruit basket.

Combine one piece of any of the following four fruits: Apple, plum, banana, peach, pear. You can also throw in a few strawberries or a fresh fig or two, if you're in the mood.

Place in a blender with:

¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon turmeric
½ teaspoon sesame seeds (raw)
½ teaspoon sliced raw almonds
½ cup fresh juice or water

Blend to a smooth paste and pour on slightly oiled baking sheets to dehydrate at 105 degrees for 36-48 hours. (This preserves enzymes, vitamins and minerals.)  When dry, eat and enjoy!

We don't own a dehydrator and it's 45 degrees out. I don't want to leave my oven on 105 degrees for 36 hours. Any other cooking/dehydrating instructions?

If you have a heater, fireplace or wood stove, it might work to place the fruit leather mixture on a plate, cover it with cheesecloth and set it next to, or above, one of them. It might take a little longer because the temp won't be 105. Of course, make sure it's all safely done. Try it out and let us know how it works.

Rethink your recipe as seeds and almonds are protein and protein and fruit are the very worst food combining that you can do. Take out the protein foods and just go with the rest of the recipe!
